Germans decide whether it’s the right time for a holiday and where their destination will be by looking to the signs of the zodiac and social media for inspiration.
This is according to a TUI survey where almost 7 out of 10 Germans admitted their travels were inspired by platforms such as Instagram and TikTok.
Also according to the survey, 21.2% of respondents prefer to use YouTube for travel ideas.
Looking at the stars
The same survey shows that a quarter of Germans consider astrology when planning travel.
A survey found that 29% of people aged 18 to 44 actually consult their zodiac signs before travelling.
Family and individual holidays
Most Germans, 71.1%, prefer to travel with their family with 17.8% going on holiday with their grandparents.
17.2 % of Germans travel alone and solo trips are actually increasing. The majority of solo travellers, 42%, prefer to visit Europe while 19.5% prefer to explore Germany in particular and 10.5% of solo German travelers go further afield to Asia. A top priority for a third of respondents is safety when travelling alone.
Where Germans travel
Almost a quarter of German travellers are plan holidays in Germany. People living in the same region as Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia have the strongest desire for enjoying domestic holidays. The most popular domestic destinations are the Baltic Sea 40%, the North Sea 35.2% and Lake Constance 21.8%
The popularity of the USA is increasing in Germany as it is among the top choices in leisure travel amongst Germans.
