Airbnb have announced they will bring back Experiences to its product portfolio from May 2025.
Airbnb Experiences will return after a two-year hiatus after becoming unavailable back in April 2023. At that time, the booking platform removed approximately 5,000 individual trips and Experience listings, as they did not generate enough bookings and did not meet the company’s standards.
The news has already sparked worldwide interest in what the new Airbnb Experiences will be like.
American travel website Skift were first t oannounce the news and Airbnb did not want to comment or respond to the publication.
Airbnb Experiences
According to the information published:
** Airbnb will also offer Experiences to locals in addition to travelers.
** Experiences will be more mainstream. The plan is to sell tickets to established, major attractions, such as the Louvre and tours of the Vatican.
** Guests at Airbnb accommodations can expect in-home offers — from private chefs and massage therapists, for example.
** Airbnb will display Experiences in “categories,” similar to what it does for homes and apartments starting since 2022.
** Experience suggestions will be presented primarily through video, likely in many short-form clips similar to TikTok. In the past, the platform has typically used photos.
Airbnb launched Experiences in 2016. It was the “vision” for the company’s evolution, according to co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky. However, Experiences proved to be a commercial failure and it is estimated that Airbnb lost a lot of money on Experiences when it launched.
