The idea of Airbnb Co-hosts which recently launched, is already proving very attractive for many. Airbnb CEO and co-founder Brian Chesky told analysts during the third-quarter earnings call that the “co-host” network could unlock “millions” of new listings in the coming years.
Chesky said, in less than a month, since the concept went into effect in mid-October, 20,000 hosts have expressed interest in becoming co-hosts.
This network will complement the existing 10,000 co-hosts, which exist in the 10 countries where the “co-host” initiative was launched.
Co-hosts are there to partner with Airbnb hosts who do not have the time, knowledge or experience in managing properties, and who need help handling certain tasks such as listing management, cleaning services etc.
High Ratings for Airbnb Co-hosts
Ceskey also said that Co-hosts receive higher guest ratings than professional property managers.
“The average five-star rating for Airbnb Co-hosts is significantly higher than the average rating for a third-party property manager,” he said.
Airbnb continues to emphasize listing quality and it has already removed 300,000 listings that didn’t make the grade since last year. However, they have a big job ahead to ensure the quality of listings remain. To date, Airbnb have more than 8 million active listings on their platform, this is a 10% YoY increase from Q3 of last year.
Ceskey believes the co-hosting network could unlock “millions” of new listings in the coming years because it will make it easier for people to earn extra money by renting out their homes on Airbnb.
