Athens and Cyprus are among the top 25 destinations in the world for executive nomads, according to the Savills Executive Nomad Index.
Cyprus is ranked at number 21 in the list and Greece at number 23.
Dubai and Abu Dhabi are ranked first and second, respectively, thanks to excellent digital and physical connectivity.
Coastal cities, with easy access to the beach are prominent in the top 10, with Malaga in 3rd place, Miami 4th, Lisbon 5th, Barcelona 6th and Palma 7th.
The characteristics of executive nomads
According to Savills, executive nomads have the following characteristics:
** Compared to the common digital nomad, which is usually a young traveller with a laptop, the executive nomad is older, more likely to travel with family and places a greater emphasis on physical and digital connectivity.
** For these individuals, the security of a location and access to healthcare and education facilities are just as important as digital connectivity. The top international locations in the Executive Nomad Index all have these characteristics.
** In addition, this type of nomad is more likely to consider the space, preferring larger rentals, and the distance to transport, local amenities etc when choosing their rental property.
Rents have increased, on average, by 5% over the past year in all 25 locations tracked in the index, with some urban markets seeing increases of more than 15%.
Digital visa required
Critical to the success of any location attracting these professionals, is the digital visa systems for nomads.
Since Estonia released its first digital visa in 2020, the number of destinations offering such visas has expanded amidst increasing competition. South Africa became one of the most recent to offer this visa, in May 2024, resulting in Cape Town joining the index list.
The criteria
The Savills Executive Nomad Index assesses the attractiveness and ease of access to long-term work in the form of telecommuting.
Each destination is rated on internet speed, connectivity, climate stability, first home prices in the local real estate market, as well as the overall quality of life.
