Research suggests that Britsh travelers are more confident this year than last year about travelling abroad. According to the latest results of the Travel Confidence Index, from the Association of British Travel Agents, the exception to the majority is the over 65s age group,
The Confidence Index, which returns for a second year, reveals a score of 47 for the British population as a whole, up six points on last year.
British travelers more confident than last year who booked overseas travel with a professional tour operator scored 72 and those who took a package holiday last year scored an even higher 74, up from 70 last year.

The biggest year-on-year increase was in areas relating to the ability to return home if the travel company goes bankrupt, this was rated as essential by 58%. Good health and safety standards in accommodation, rated as essential by 48%, and a welcoming and safe holiday environment, rated as essential by 46%, highlighting the importance of reassuring customers about these points during the booking process or through marketing activities.
Helping customers obtain the right documents for overseas travel – such as a valid passport or visa – continues to be the most important area for travel companies, with 71% of respondents rating it as ‘essential’.
The Travel Confidence Index will form part of ABTA’s Travel Habits 2024-25 report, which will be published during the association’s conference, to be held in Greece between the 7th and 9th October.
The statistics come from ABTA’s annual Holiday Habits Survey, conducted each summer by The Nursery Research and Planning, on a representative sample of 2,000 British adults.
