Nudism is still a holiday option for many tourists and Greece is prominent in the list of the most popular destinations for nudists. For some it is the ultimate freedom and lifestyle.
For others it is an awkward situation and fortunately for a few the “den of debauchery”.
Many tourists now choose to come to Greece not only to enjoy its large and popular sandy beaches, but to go to some other beaches, small, remote and inaccessible, which are ideal for nudism in Greece.
In fact, with a simple internet search you can find that there are organized guides to beaches not only on islands but also in Athens where you can throw away your swimsuit and enjoy the water naked.
Nudism in Athens
As much as nudism has been associated with remote islands and distant beaches, there are beaches for nudists in Athens as well.
To reach them you might need to search a little harder and sometimes walk a little further.
One thing is for sure, all along Attica’s coast line there are small, mostly rocky coves, which are ideal for people who prefer to enjoy the beach in the nude.
Obviously when you leave Athens the options increase.
Regardless whether you are a seasoned nudist and know the official nudist beaches, or you want to try it for the first time, you are bound to find a remote or rough beach where you can feel the experience. Nudism in Greece
The genesis of nudism in Greece is believed to be somewhere around the 1950s with reactions to the lifestyle choice varying depending on the destination.
Publications report that, for example, the inhabitants of Hydra considered nudists an insult to their island, while the inhabitants of Mykonos welcomed them, realizing the economic potential that this would have for their place.
The “official” acceptance of the nudism movement in our country came in 1983, when the relevant law was passed by the Greek Parliament, which allowed nudism in organised nudist holiday centres and on adjacent beaches.
However, the only certainty is that the beaches in Greece are countless and offer holidays for all tastes.
With or without a swimsuit.
