Mandarin Oriental, the world’s leading luxury hotel chain, announced that it is acquiring full ownership of its exceptional portfolio of private villas and townhouses. The company intends to manage the business independently, with the aim of providing unique, high-end experiences for its guests.
Initially launched as a limited collection of eight residences in 2022, Mandarin Oriental has managed to expand its portfolio to 25 luxury villas around the world in less than three years. One of the most iconic properties is Villa Caldera in Imerovigli, Santorini, which offers breathtaking views of the caldera and stunning privacy, reflecting traditional Cycladic architecture.

A new era with “Mandarin Oriental Exceptional Homes”
The collection will be rebranded under the Mandarin Oriental Exceptional Homes brand, embodying the company’s uncompromising commitment to excellence. Aiming for destinations that cover every season, Mandarin Oriental plans to further expand to summer destinations in the Mediterranean, winter retreats in the Alps, and top resorts in North America.
The services offered are top-notch, with concierge staff managing guests’ needs, expert chefs for personalized menus, and strict hygiene and safety standards. At the same time, family-friendly amenities and unique experiences for different age groups ensure that each guest enjoys a perfectly tailored stay.
Competition in the luxury vacation rental market
Mandarin Oriental’s announcement comes at a time of heightened competition in the premium vacation rental market. Since 2019, Marriott, another major player in the hospitality sector, has launched its own luxury residences platform called Marriott Homes & Villas. However, Mandarin Oriental, with its legendary reputation in the hospitality sector, aims to further differentiate itself, attracting guests who seek luxury, exclusivity and personalized care.
Mandarin Oriental’s strategic vision
Laurent Kleitman, CEO of Mandarin Oriental Group, said: “These vacation homes are a natural extension of our brand, allowing us to enter new destinations and offer unique experiences to our guests. Our commitment is to expand and enhance this offering, continuing to add exclusive properties to our portfolio.”
This strategy allows Mandarin Oriental to reach a wider audience, such as large families, guests seeking privacy and luxury, as well as travelers with demands for completely personal experiences.
With Mandarin Oriental Exceptional Homes, the chain aspires to strengthen its dominance in the luxury hospitality sector, offering an upgraded dimension to vacations, where luxury and personalization are perfectly combined.
