POMIDA has requested a two-month extension to the deadline for the nationwide registration of lifts, which is currently set to expire on November 30, 2025. In a letter addressed to Minister of Development Panagiotis Theodorikakos, the Federation argues that additional time is needed for property owners, building managers and—above all—maintenance companies, to complete the process via the official Elevator Registry platform. The organization describes the registration effort as a “national priority” that must be accomplished with the participation of all stakeholders.
The letter, which was also sent to Deputy Minister of Industry Lazaros Tsavdaridis and Secretary-General of Industry Lefteris Kritikós, notes that until mid-November the rate of submissions remained lower than expected. This was attributed to two widespread misunderstandings: many building managers believed that submitting the registration using their TAXISNET credentials would create additional obligations for them, while several lift maintenance firms wrongly assumed they needed written consent from property owners to declare the lifts under their service.
According to POMIDA, these issues were clarified during a meeting held on November 19 under the Minister’s leadership. It was confirmed that building managers do not incur any new responsibilities by submitting registrations, while maintenance companies do not require owner consent, since the registration is a legal obligation with significant implications for both sides. Maintenance firms were also urged to immediately proceed with the declaration of the lifts they service, at no cost to property owners or managers.
Despite a noticeable increase in submissions following these clarifications, POMIDA stresses that the remaining time until the end of November is insufficient—especially for maintenance companies that must submit thousands of registrations on behalf of their clients. The Federation also highlights that, by law, only one deadline extension is permitted, and a short extension would overlap with the Christmas holiday period, making it ineffective.
For these reasons, POMIDA is requesting that the deadline be extended until January 31, 2026, allowing all parties adequate time to complete the process.
“This registration effort is a national priority that must be achieved with the participation of everyone,” the letter concludes, underscoring the importance of ensuring safety and regulatory compliance for lift operations across the country.
