British and Israeli tourists are the leading group in arrivals to Cyprus this year, recording a significant increase.
Despite the challenges faced by the tourism industry internationally, the data from the Statistical Office shows resilience and enhanced demand for the Cypriot destination.
According to the data, tourist arrivals in Cyprus during the first seven months of 2024 amounted to 2,203,704, showing an increase of 3.1% compared to the corresponding period of 2023.
This positive development encourages tourism professionals, who estimate that the year will close at the same level as last year, despite the difficulties.
In July, tourist arrivals reached 551,229 compared to 523,718 in July 2023, an increase of 5.3%, with arrivals showing a marginal increase of 0.05% compared to July 2019 (550,971), the record year for Cypriot tourism.
British and Israeli tourists in Cyprus
In particular, arrivals from the UK and Israel show steady growth, with the British taking the top spot in arrivals for July 2024.
Of the total tourists to Cyprus, arrivals from the UK totalled 186,751, representing 33.9% of the total, while arrivals from Israel reached 71,238, representing 12.9%.
Notably, despite the recent geopolitical tensions in the region, Israeli tourists continued to visit Cyprus at an increased rate, recording a 10% increase compared to July 2023.
British tourists also saw a 6.15% increase, reinforcing the importance of Cyprus as a popular destination.
7% decrease in travel abroad by Cyprus residents
According to the Statistical Service, trips abroad by residents of Cyprus in July 2024 amounted to 171,382 compared to 184,335 in July 2023, representing a decrease of 7.0%.
According to Cystat, the top holiday destinations for residents of Cyprus in July 2024 were Greece with 40.1% (68,805), the UK with 11.1% (18,987) and Italy with 4.8% (8,191).
