Younger travelers are looking for authentic experiences in less well-known destinations in Greece this coming summer, according to new Airbnb data. As the platform notes, Greece is among the countries seeing a significant increase in interest from Gen Z, with travelers now moving beyond the classic tourist destinations and choosing more undiscovered areas.
At the center of the trend are Folegandros and Lefkada
Airbnb describes Folegandros as a “wild seaside destination with impressive cliffs, untouched hiking trails and a relaxed bohemian atmosphere,” attracting travelers who are seeking more authentic and calm escapes.
At the same time, Lefkada stands out for its turquoise lagoons, beaches with a strong local vibe and a lively summer atmosphere—elements that make it particularly popular with younger ages.
The trend is part of the broader phenomenon of “nostalgia travel,” as Gen Z rediscovers iconic destinations that had been loved by Millennials in the previous decade, but through a new, more experiential and more affordable approach.
According to Airbnb, Gen Z searches for specific destinations increased by more than 20% compared to last year, with Greece among the top countries benefiting from this new travel momentum.
