Airbnb has informed hosts that as of 15 July it is increasing the commission for its services to 15%, in case the host has chosen to be billed only. Let’s explain what is happening. Airbnb gives two billing options when it comes to the commission for its services. Split commission to both the guest and the host: In this case, it charges 14.2% to the guest and 3% to the host.
The commission is calculated from the sub-total of the booking (the sub-total of the booking includes the price per night and any additional charges imposed by the host, but does not include the guest service commission and taxes) and is automatically deducted from the host’s payment.
Or Commission only from the host:
With this pricing, the entire commission is deducted from the host payment. Typically it is 14-16%, although hosts with very strict cancellation policies may pay a higher commission, and commissions for stays of at least 28 nights may be lower. This commission is mandatory for traditional hospitality listings, such as hotels, hotel serviced apartments, etc., as well as software-linked hosts. So, the increase only applies to those who have the option of charging the commission only to the host and have been paying 14% until now. This 1% increase will apply to any reservation made by
15 July 2024 onwards.
Note that as of April 1, 2024, Airbnb will collect an additional 2% service fee from guests for all bookings made by guests in a currency other than that of the host.
