Airbnb has announced a partnership with Tripadvisor Group, with the aim of bringing selected Tripadvisor experiences to its platform later this year. The two companies did not disclose either the number of experiences that will be included or the first destinations that will be covered.
Tripadvisor offers approximately 425,000 experiences worldwide through its tours and activities sector, in which Viator also operates. According to Kristin Dorsett, general manager of Experiences at Tripadvisor Group, the partnership aims to bring “the best things to do” to more travelers.
What the partnership means for Airbnb Experiences
The agreement is part of Airbnb’s plans to grow Airbnb Experiences, following its relaunch, together with Airbnb Services, in May 2025. During the announcement of its second-quarter results, co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky said that the platform added 1,000 experiences to its most popular categories during the quarter.
According to the company, this corresponded to an almost 80% year-over-year increase in supply. Chesky also said that bookings increased both year-over-year and compared with the previous quarter, although Experiences remains a small part of Airbnb’s overall business.
Airbnb is initially focusing its expansion on a limited number of markets, before expanding the program to more markets. Chesky described the approach as a “one, to ten, to many” strategy, similar to the one used to expand the company’s accommodation business.
As he said, Airbnb is already in “dozens of markets” where it is seeing strong growth, but rapid scaling to thousands of markets is not expected during 2026.
The interest for property managers
Airbnb is also seeking demand for Experiences beyond guests who book accommodation on the platform. In November 2025, it had reported that almost half of Experiences bookings were not connected to an Airbnb stay.
For property managers, this expansion could open new opportunities to connect accommodation with activities and additional services at the destination. However, the companies have not clarified whether hosts or property managers will be able to create packages that combine accommodation with Tripadvisor products/experiences.
At the same time, Viator has already expanded the distribution of its content through other companies, including Google, Frontier Airlines, Uber and Booking.com.
What remains open
For now, the Airbnb and Tripadvisor partnership confirms the two sides’ intention to strengthen the distribution of activities and experiences, without yet revealing the commercial model for hospitality professionals. For the short-term rental market, the practical question is whether and how hosts will be able to leverage these experiences as an additional tool for guest service and revenue generation.
