The Municipality of Athens continues, according to the relevant announcement, the intensive operations of the Municipal Police to protect and ensure the proper use of public common spaces and to address their unauthorized occupation.
From June 23 to July 28, Municipal Police teams carried out 13 inspection operations in central locations, passageways and commercial streets of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Municipal Communities, with the aim of ensuring the free movement of citizens.
What was removed from the area
According to the municipality, more than 240 items were removed from public common spaces in front of food and beverage establishments and commercial businesses because they were obstructing the safe movement of pedestrians and people with disabilities.

The municipality’s position
The Deputy Mayor for Municipal Police and Public Common Spaces, Eleni Zontirou, said that the free use of public space remains a standing priority and that interventions to restore legality are expected to continue with undiminished intensity across all municipal communities.
As she noted, the issue also concerns respect for pedestrians, particularly people with mobility difficulties, as the aim is to protect the right of citizens to move freely.
