As of Tuesday, April 1st, the quiet hours change, as – according to Police Order 3 of 1996 – the summer period begins, which lasts until September 30th. Until then, the midday and nighttime quiet hours are respectively from 15:00 to 17:30 and from 23:00 to 07:00.
For the winter period, i.e., from October 1st to March 31st of each year, the quiet hours are set from 15:30 to 17:30 and from 22:00 to 07:30.
As mentioned in the relevant Police Order, during midday and nighttime quiet hours, the following are prohibited:
- Work or other activities that create noise. In exceptional cases of emergency that cannot be postponed, the execution of work, especially of public benefit, that causes noise may be permitted with a special justified permit from the commander of the relevant Police Department.
- The operation of any musical instrument or radio, tape recorder, or television at high volume, shouting, noisy dances, and any other noisy event in a residence or other private spaces.
- Singing, shouting, the use of musical instruments, the operation of radios, tape recorders, and televisions on streets, squares, and public areas in general of residential areas, as well as inside public transport vehicles.
- Noisy games in cafes, billiard halls, or other public centers, as well as loud shouting and conversations by patrons of these establishments.
- Noisy discussions and arguments at car stations (buses, taxis, etc.), the loading or unloading of goods to or from trucks that creates noise, as well as the noisy operation of the engine of a wheeled vehicle that is stationary.
- The use of sirens or other audible instruments or security systems without a reason for emergency, as well as their test operation.
