More than 123.7 million nights spent in short-term rentals in the EU in the first quarter of 2024 booked through Airbnb, Booking, Expedia Group and TripAdvisor.
This performance, according to Eurostat, represents an increase of 28.3% compared to the same period in 2023.
In Q1 of this year, Greece ranked 8th in terms of the number of overnight stays, which reached 2.5 million.
France, Spain, Italy, Italy, Germany, Austria, Poland, Portugal and Germany lead the way.
The growth rate of bookings in our country through the 4 platforms in Q1 2024 amounted to 31.5%. Overnight stays in short-term rentals in the EU via the 4 platforms continued to set new monthly records.
In particular: ** In January 2024, 33.3 million overnight stays were recorded, an increase of 16.7% compared to January 2023.
** In February there were 41.2 million overnight stays (+19% compared to February 2023) and ** In March there were 49.2 million overnight stays (a sharp increase of +48%).
Note that this year Catholic Easter was on 31 March, which had a significant impact on travel. It is recalled that the data are provided by the four platforms mentioned above to the European Commission and published by Eurostat under the cooperation agreement signed between the two parties in March 2020.
Eurostat also released yesterday 29 July the regional data for the fourth quarter of 2023, giving a comprehensive picture of the performance of the sector for the whole of 2023.
According to the data: ** The most popular regions for short-term rental accommodation according to bookings via the 4 online platforms in 2023 were Andalusia in Spain (35.6 million nights), Jadranska Hrvatska in Croatia (32.6 million) and the French region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (24.9 million).
** Of the top 20 regions, 6 are in Spain and France, 5 in Italy, 2 regions are in Portugal and 1 in Croatia.
