Airbnb has announced new updates for the autumn season, introducing advanced search and social networking features. These changes are reshaping how travellers discover, compare and choose accommodation.
For property owners and managers in Greece, this is an opportunity to review their listing: Does it accurately reflect the amenities, spaces and experience guests will find?
What’s changing with AI-powered search
With the new artificial intelligence (AI) search, travellers can type or say exactly what they are looking for. The platform’s AI recognises keywords and automatically displays relevant filters, drawing information directly from the amenities the host has listed.
Airbnb uses the word “baby” as an example: filters appear for cots, playgrounds, children’s books and toys. This makes it easier for guests to find the options that interest them without searching through the entire list of filters.
The new artificial intelligence search (AI search) and related filters are initially launching in the United States. So far, no date has been announced for the feature’s expansion to Greece.
Travel map: Recommendations from people the traveller knows
Airbnb is also strengthening its social features through tools such as Connect and Travel Map. Travellers can connect with friends, family or travel companions and see on an interactive map where people in their network have stayed, which properties they have saved and what reviews they have left. Users choose which trips and how much information they share.
This means that an excellent stay goes beyond a public review. It now serves as a direct personal recommendation to the guest’s friends, who can see your property on their map and book it more easily.

What hosts can check in their listing
Even if some AI features have not yet reached the Greek market, it is important to start preparing your listing now:
List all the amenities you actually offer
AI relies on the selected amenity checkboxes to display your property in the new filters. If you provide a cot or high chair but mention it only in the description, the platform may not pick it up. Remember to remove amenities that are no longer available.
Check the description and photos
Make sure your photos accurately reflect what you describe so that automated AI summaries are accurate. If you have changed furniture or equipment, update your photos. An old photo can create a misleading expectation, even if the description has been corrected.
Describe the spaces clearly
Clarify how many separate bedrooms there are, where the beds are located and whether the sofa is used for sleeping. Clarity about the property’s layout helps comparison tools highlight its strengths.
Pay attention to review comments
Because reviews are shown directly to travellers’ friends through Travel Map, maintaining high standards of hospitality is the best way to gain organic visibility.
A clear listing sets the right expectations
Adapting to the new search features does not guarantee a better ranking or more bookings, but it helps your listing remain clear, up to date and appealing to travellers using the platform’s new search tools. The aim is for travellers to understand what is offered and make their choice with the right expectations.
