{"id":42220,"date":"2026-09-08T09:18:01","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T06:18:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bnbnews.gr\/?p=42220"},"modified":"2026-09-07T22:26:31","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T19:26:31","slug":"ionian-islands-tourism-strategy-dmmo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bnbnews.gr\/en\/tourism\/42220\/ionian-islands-tourism-strategy-dmmo\/","title":{"rendered":"Kefalogianni \u2013 Trepeklis: New tourism strategy for the Ionian Islands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">A new strategy for <strong data-start=\"4275\" data-end=\"4301\">Ionian Islands tourism<\/strong>, focusing on destination promotion and the further development of the region\u2019s tourism offering, was at the centre of a working meeting in Corfu between Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and Ionian Islands Regional Governor Giannis Trepeklis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The talks focused on tapping into emerging tourism markets and extending the tourism season, with particular emphasis on promoting the Diapontia Islands of Ereikoussa, Othonoi and Mathraki.<\/p>\n<h2>A stronger focus on the smaller islands<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The Tourism Minister highlighted the importance of quality and authenticity in Greece\u2019s tourism offering, as well as the potential to position the smaller islands as destinations offering authentic travel experiences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">For his part, the Regional Governor stressed the importance of close cooperation between the Region and the Ministry, with the aim of developing a high-quality, sustainable and competitive tourism sector that delivers benefits across all the islands of the region.<\/p>\n<h2>Leveraging international exposure and VisitGreece<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The meeting also explored opportunities to capitalise on the international exposure generated by Christopher Nolan\u2019s film <em>The Odyssey<\/em>, as well as the new VisitGreece digital platform, to deliver more targeted promotion of destinations across the Ionian Islands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">A technical working session followed, attended by the Minister and tourism officials from the Region of the Ionian Islands.
