Expedia has confirmed that it is piloting a new Sponsored Listings<\/strong> system on Vrbo, allowing property owners and professional vacation rental managers to pay for higher visibility in travelers’ search results.<\/p>\n

The move introduces a pay-to-play<\/strong> model to Vrbo for the first time, a strategy that has long been a key revenue driver across major online travel platforms in the hotel industry. According to Expedia, the feature is currently in a pilot phase, with a broader rollout expected before the end of 2026.<\/p>\n

Until now, Vrbo has relied on organic ranking<\/strong> to determine property visibility, using performance metrics such as guest reviews, cancellation rates, and booking acceptance rates. The idea was simple: properties delivering the best guest experience would earn higher placement in search results without paying for additional exposure.<\/p>\n

However, the introduction of Sponsored Listings<\/strong> could significantly change that balance. Property managers will be able to set advertising budgets and compete for premium positions in search results, regardless of their organic ranking.<\/p>\n

Stricter requirements for Premier Host<\/h2>\n

The development comes just months after Vrbo introduced a major overhaul of its Premier Host<\/strong> program, which took effect on January 1, 2026<\/strong>. Under the new evaluation system, each listing is now assessed individually rather than at the account level. To earn the Premier Host badge,<\/strong> every property must meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n
