In this context, the Hellenic Fire Service has introduced the new \u201cFire Safety Guide for Short-Term Rental Properties,\u201d a document that for the first time consolidates all mandatory safety requirements and additional preventive practices that property owners may adopt.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1053\" data-end=\"1112\">Mandatory fire-protection measures for all properties<\/h2>\n<h3 data-start=\"1113\" data-end=\"1192\">Fire extinguishers with specific technical standards and capacity levels<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1193\" data-end=\"1371\">Every property offered for short-term rental must have at least one portable fire extinguisher, with its specifications depending on the capacity and layout of the accommodation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1373\" data-end=\"1420\">Specifically, the Guide sets out the following:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1422\" data-end=\"1881\">\n<li data-start=\"1422\" data-end=\"1576\">\n<p data-start=\"1424\" data-end=\"1576\"><strong data-start=\"1424\" data-end=\"1474\">For properties accommodating up to six guests:<\/strong><br data-start=\"1474\" data-end=\"1477\" \/>A fire extinguisher with a rating of <strong data-start=\"1516\" data-end=\"1529\">13A\u201355B\u2013C<\/strong>, certified under European standard <strong data-start=\"1565\" data-end=\"1575\">EN 3-7<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1578\" data-end=\"1707\">\n<p data-start=\"1580\" data-end=\"1707\"><strong data-start=\"1580\" data-end=\"1634\">For properties accommodating more than six guests:<\/strong><br data-start=\"1634\" data-end=\"1637\" \/>A <strong data-start=\"1641\" data-end=\"1655\">21A\u2013113B\u2013C<\/strong> fire extinguisher, also certified under <strong data-start=\"1696\" data-end=\"1706\">EN 3-7<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1709\" data-end=\"1881\">\n<p data-start=\"1711\" data-end=\"1881\"><strong data-start=\"1711\" data-end=\"1765\">For kitchens where fats and cooking oils are used:<\/strong><br data-start=\"1765\" data-end=\"1768\" \/>A mandatory <strong data-start=\"1782\" data-end=\"1788\">5F<\/strong> fire extinguisher designed for cooking-related fires, also compliant with the same standard.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1883\" data-end=\"2164\">All extinguishers must be placed in a clearly visible location, ideally near the main entrance or exit, and accompanied by appropriate signage. Their maintenance must follow the requirements of the <strong data-start=\"2081\" data-end=\"2113\">15th Fire Service Regulation<\/strong>, including proper documentation and certification.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2166\" data-end=\"2224\">Mandatory installation of standalone smoke detectors<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2225\" data-end=\"2530\">The Guide requires the installation of smoke detectors in all areas of the property. These devices must comply with the <strong data-start=\"2345\" data-end=\"2357\">EN 14604<\/strong> standard, which defines operational accuracy and reliability.<br data-start=\"2419\" data-end=\"2422\" \/>In the kitchen, a <strong data-start=\"2440\" data-end=\"2457\">heat detector<\/strong> is recommended to prevent false alarms caused by steam or cooking fumes.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2532\" data-end=\"2607\">Escape signage and emergency lighting in line with European standards<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2608\" data-end=\"2698\">A key requirement concerns the proper marking of emergency exits. Properties must include:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2700\" data-end=\"2927\">\n<li data-start=\"2700\" data-end=\"2755\">\n<p data-start=\"2702\" data-end=\"2755\">Escape-route signage compliant with <strong data-start=\"2738\" data-end=\"2753\">EN ISO 7010<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2756\" data-end=\"2866\">\n<p data-start=\"2758\" data-end=\"2866\">Emergency lighting that remains operational during a power outage to ensure visibility along escape routes<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2867\" data-end=\"2927\">\n<p data-start=\"2869\" data-end=\"2927\">At least one emergency light at the property\u2019s main exit<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2929\" data-end=\"3089\">Where multiple escape routes exist or the layout is unclear, the Guide also recommends the installation of an escape-route diagram compliant with <strong data-start=\"3075\" data-end=\"3088\">ISO 23601<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3091\" data-end=\"3153\">Special provisions for properties with LPG or fireplaces<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3154\" data-end=\"3388\">Where liquefied petroleum gas or natural gas is used, all installations must comply with applicable safety standards.<br data-start=\"3271\" data-end=\"3274\" \/>Properties with fireplaces or open-flame appliances must also have a <strong data-start=\"3343\" data-end=\"3359\">fire blanket<\/strong> certified under <strong data-start=\"3376\" data-end=\"3387\">EN 1869<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3390\" data-end=\"3439\">Optional but important fire-safety measures<\/h2>\n<h3 data-start=\"3440\" data-end=\"3480\">Gas and carbon monoxide detectors<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3481\" data-end=\"3513\">The Guide recommends installing:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3515\" data-end=\"3641\">\n<li data-start=\"3515\" data-end=\"3580\">\n<p data-start=\"3517\" data-end=\"3580\">A <strong data-start=\"3519\" data-end=\"3547\">carbon monoxide detector<\/strong> in properties with a fireplace<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3581\" data-end=\"3641\">\n<p data-start=\"3583\" data-end=\"3641\">A <strong data-start=\"3585\" data-end=\"3606\">gas leak detector<\/strong> where LPG or natural gas is used<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3643\" data-end=\"3756\">These devices are not mandatory but significantly enhance guest safety and are standard practice internationally.<\/p>\n<h3>Ensuring safe evacuation<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3789\" data-end=\"3842\">Chapter C of the Guide details evacuation guidelines:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3844\" data-end=\"4093\">\n<li data-start=\"3844\" data-end=\"3944\">\n<p data-start=\"3846\" data-end=\"3944\">Corridors and stairways must remain <strong data-start=\"3882\" data-end=\"3903\">free of obstacles<\/strong> and have a minimum width of <strong data-start=\"3932\" data-end=\"3942\">0.80 m<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3945\" data-end=\"3992\">\n<p data-start=\"3947\" data-end=\"3992\">Doors must open <strong data-start=\"3963\" data-end=\"3990\">easily and without keys<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3993\" data-end=\"4045\">\n<p data-start=\"3995\" data-end=\"4045\">Elevators must <strong data-start=\"4010\" data-end=\"4017\">not<\/strong> be used during evacuation<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4046\" data-end=\"4093\">\n<p data-start=\"4048\" data-end=\"4093\">Non-slip surfaces on stairs are recommended<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"4095\" data-end=\"4131\">Safety instructions for guests<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"4132\" data-end=\"4251\">The Guide advises providing guests with clear instructions in Greek and at least one international language, including:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4253\" data-end=\"4450\">\n<li data-start=\"4253\" data-end=\"4295\">\n<p data-start=\"4255\" data-end=\"4295\">Emergency numbers (199, 112, 100, 166)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4296\" data-end=\"4357\">\n<p data-start=\"4298\" data-end=\"4357\">The exact address and <strong data-start=\"4320\" data-end=\"4339\">GPS coordinates<\/strong> of the property<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4358\" data-end=\"4382\">\n<p data-start=\"4360\" data-end=\"4382\">The nearest hospital<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4383\" data-end=\"4450\">\n<p data-start=\"4385\" data-end=\"4450\">Basic safety recommendations for appliances and fire prevention<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-start=\"4452\" data-end=\"4483\">Fire Risk Assessment Form<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4484\" data-end=\"4768\">Chapter D introduces a new self-assessment tool: the <strong data-start=\"4537\" data-end=\"4566\">Fire Risk Assessment Form<\/strong>, completed by the owner or manager.
